A brief information about NSFAS -> an initiative by the government for supplying bursaries and student loans to learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.
This bursary covers tuition, registration fees, food, accommodation and learning materials. Your application approval is subject to the eligibility criteria/requirements. That is, you must be deserving.

Start with these steps to apply for NSFAS bursary.
- Visit the National Student Financial Aid Scheme website - www.nsfas.org.za
- Click on the 'myNSFAS' on the top section of the site.
- Create a myNSFAS account.
- Click on the 'APPLY' tab and complete the sections on the screen.
- Upload required supporting documents where applicable and 'Submit'
To qualify for an NSFAS bursary, a student must be registered or intend to register in an approved qualification at a public university or TVET college in South Africa. The household income threshold for NSFAS bursaries is R350,000 per annum. Therefore students who come from homes with income greater than R350,000 per annum do not qualify for NSFAS bursaries. However, students with disabilities and with household income of up to R600,000 per annum can apply for NSFAS loans.
Track Your Application
After application, you can track your application. NSFAS will make a decision based on your application. Once the funding decision has been made, you will either be approved for funding, be required to upload supporting documents or be declined. However, being rejected is not bad news because you can appeal this decision.
